Breweries - Black Mountain | Asheville
Have A Beer
I should begin by saying that I'm primarily a fan of Belgium beer. I do not like IPA's, so that instantly muddles my opinions about most of the local breweries. So my comments don't really reflect the quality of the IPA's in any given brewery because I didn't drink any. I should also state, that as of this writing, I've only been to most of these breweries once, so my opinion may change over time.
Hopefully you can still gain some insights regardless of my or your taste in beer.
Cheers,
Glen

Black Mountain Brewery
One of our local breweries, about a 3 minute drive or 15 minute walk from BMS.
I enjoyed the Oatmeal Stout as well as the English Pale Ale.
The inside is cozy, but you'll most likely want to hang out on the outside deck which also has a second floor with views of the surrounding mountains.
For food, there is an excellent Food Truck called Smoke, that specializes in Smoked foods.

Lookout Brewery
Another local brewery a few minutes from the house. Lookout has a nice, varied menu of quality craft beers. For some reason, most breweries don't have TV's to watch a game. Lookout does have a TV, so it's a good place to grab a great beer and enjoy a game. It's also located across the street from Fresh Pizza if you want to enjoy a really good Italian meal.
Pisgah
Yet another local brewery a few minutes from the house. They have a nice variety of beers. What makes Pisgah unique is that they don't have an indoors tap room. Obviously on the colder or wetter days, you won't want to go here. But on those great weather days, this is the one local brewery that has a very large outdoors venue including a nice new stage to enjoy live music.
One World Brewery
There are two locations, we visited the centrally located in downtown Asheville on Patton street.
Promoting itself as the only basement Brewery in Asheville, you'll walk down a flight of stairs to get to the brewery. It's a no frills atmosphere but I really liked the beer. Shout out to the Amber Ale that I thought was excellent.

Green Man Brewery
Located a little south of downtown.
One of the oldest breweries in North Carolina, , Green Man Brewery has produced some of the city’s favorite beers since 1997. They offer a nice variety and quantity of beers.
For those of you who are fans of the band Rush, you'll appreciate the Red Barchetta, a hoppy red ale.

Thirsty Monk
Located in downtown Asheville.
Yea Belgium. There are two main levels, I drank at the main level where I believe they served their own brand of Belgium beers. The lower level serves various brands of well known Belgium bottles, which I'm sure are very satisfactory.
Other reviews discuss a very impressive line of craft cocktails which I'll have to check out next time I'm there.

Wicked Weed
Located in downtown Asheville.
WW is probably the most popular local brewery in the area. It's a bit of a tourist trap. Great atmosphere in an historic brick building. Has a fine Gastro Pub on the 2nd floor, while the main floor contains the main tap room.
They have a good selection of IPA's and sours. When I was there, they didn't have a Belgium to try.
Noble Cider
Located on the west side of Asheville.
If you are looking for an awesome alternative to guzzling beer in the typical dark tap room, Noble is a great choice. It's whimsical atmosphere provides a perfect setting to discovering their many fine ciders and mead.
Highland Brewery
Located on the south/western side of downtown Ashville
HB has very large taproom, with a stage for concerts located on one end of the room. Big screens for watching a game. They have a nice variety of beers to choose from. The Gaelic Ale and Oatmeal Porter are tasty treats that can be found throughout the area.
For those disc golfers, you'll be happy to find a course on the vast grounds surrounding the brewery. Haven't played it yet, but will soon.
Sierra Nevada
Located 5 minutes from the Airport.
Easily the most scenic Taproom. Driving through the beautifully landscaped entry, you immediately realize that this is a special venue. You can choose to chill in the multiple beautiful tap rooms or hang outside taking in the wonderful scenic landscape.
Besides there popular beers they serve a few limited beers that are only available at the taproom.
New Belgium
Located west of downtown, on the river.
Slick modern design to the building/taproom. Offers a alternate vibe to the typical mountain décor. This popular national brewery does feature many Belgium beers.
Upon my visit in March, 2023 they informed me that they completely changed the style of their Fat Tire beer. It was an Amber Ale, it's now a Blond Ale. Go figure.
Twin Leaf
Located south of downtown.
A smaller, more basic taproom, but the beer doesn't disappoint. Nice variety, you can choose from a Chocolate Mexican Stout to golden Belgium Tripel. One of my favorite breweries so far.
